Why your local business isn't showing up on Google
When a local business tells us "we're invisible on Google," the cause is almost always one of five gaps. Here they are, in the order we fix them.
1. An unclaimed or half-empty Google Business Profile
Your profile is the single strongest local ranking signal, and most businesses treat it like a formality. Claim it, verify it, then fill every field: hours, services, photos, service area, attributes. Post to it monthly. A complete profile outranks a neglected one in the same neighborhood almost every time.
2. Inconsistent name, address and phone
If your website says "Main St." and your directory listings say "Main Street" with an old phone number, Google hedges its bets and shows someone else. Pick one exact format and make every listing match it.
3. No page for what people actually search
Customers search "emergency plumber riverside," not "welcome to our website." If your services live in a paragraph on the homepage, break them out: one clear page per service, named in the words customers use.
4. A slow, confusing mobile site
Most local searches happen on phones. If your site takes six seconds to load or hides your phone number, visitors bounce, and Google reads that bounce as a vote against you. Fast, clear, tappable phone number at the top. That is the bar.
5. A review drought
Reviews are votes. Businesses that ask every happy customer for a review, and reply to every review they get, climb. Businesses that feel awkward asking stay put. Build the ask into how you finish every job.
Fix them in this order
Profile first, consistency second, service pages third, site speed fourth, reviews forever. Each one compounds the others. Most businesses see movement within a month or two of fixing the first three, and the businesses that keep at all five stop being invisible for good.
